ATHENS — This season has played out like an old sports movie cliché for Dannell Ellerbe. The star athlete goes down with a bad injury and his little-known backup is thrust into the spotlight. The backup then plays so well that fans quickly forget about the old veteran still working himself back into shape.
Mark Richt probably won’t be giving his thoughts on a bailout for the auto industry any time soon, but he said he doesn’t mind having president-elect Barack Obama chime in with some thoughts on college football. In fact, Richt said he agrees with Obama’s proposal for a college football playoff.
Analysts may have him pegged as a first-round draft pick, but Georgia defensive tackle Geno Atkins said he never considered leaving Athens after his junior season.
ATHENS — Georgia’s offensive line isn’t likely to be any healthier when it takes on Georgia Tech in two weeks, but it will at least start with the same lineup for a second consecutive game.
